DEranged Security » Blog Archive » A small input on audio-spam A small input on audio-spam October 19th, 2007 by admin | Posted in Thoughts | I’ve been sure for quite some time that the next step for spammers would be using stuff you know in the mails. For example friends name, websites you own, interest you listed on facebook, domains you would want to buy and so on. This I’ve been seeing more of lately and it’s very effective sadly, me being in the business even fell for one enough to open it and read. This particular mail told me to renew a domain I actually own with their company instead. Back years ago when the spammers started using pictures instead of text to bypass anti-spam something came to my mind. What if they start to use sound or video? It would be very problematic to analyze and filter, even worse than pictures. Today is that sad day, the first organized spam with mp3-files have been set in action reported from the anti-spam companies around the world. Let’s hope the industry got the same thoughts as I and already have developed good methods to filter this crap. Not due to many will fall for it but the simple fact that I HATE SORTING OUT CRAP!
